Beer

Boatrocker Brewing Co.

In a quest to drink my way around the microbreweries of Victoria and beyond, I stumbled across Boatrocker Brewing Company’s, Alpha Queen. Boasting the tag-line: “Highly Hopped Ale”, the Alpha Queen is one hell of a matriarch.

Brewed with the use of NZ Super Alpha hops and finished with Cascade, the Alpha Queen is a herbal concoction. Surprisingly easy to drink, the initial taste is fresh if not slightly sweet, which is then promptly followed by the bitterness of the hops. My only concern is in regard to the ‘sessionability’ of the beer. Fine after one or two, I get the feeling that you would not want to spend an afternoon downing these puppies, lest deal with the consequences!

With only the Alpha Queen in their arsenal at the moment (as far as I can tell) Boatrocker certainly have all their hops in one fermenter, however thankfully, they don’t disappoint.

  1. Love the blog. Great layout, great pics and great words. Tantalising my tastebuds before my return to Melbourne! Keep up the good work.

  2. Tried this beer on sunday after you mentioned it the other day. Really enjoyed it, full of flavour, even though I drank it straight from the bottle due to all glasses that remotely resemble something that should hold beer being either packed away for the move or in the dishwasher (there was a wine glass I could have used, but felt that would have been too pontsie), but I digress. Good beer
